Abstract: Religion and belief have the potential to change one’s mindset in relation to the future due to belief systems, community oriented thought, and teachings related to divine intervention and predestination. This project asks the question: is there an association between religion and optimism about the future, and if so, is the association between religion and optimism stronger when measured by service attendance or religious denomination? Through analyzing data from the 2012 Outlook on Life Survey, it concludes that there is an association between religion and optimism, and that service attendance has a stronger association than denomination.
